Ohio LISW and LSW

In Ohio the two clinical licenses are the Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) and the Licensed Social Worker  (LSW).  In order to become an LISW  you must first become an LSW and this information is listed in the table below.

A note about the ASWB exam for the LISW, candidates with a masters degree in social work, who wish to provide mental health services (psychotherapy, counseling, etc) must take the clinical Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) examination.

Candidates with a master’s degree in social work, who wish to represent themselves as social workers and provide social work services only (case management, psychosocial assessments, etc) may choose to take EITHER the advanced or clinical ASWB examination.”
