I am psychotherapist and clinical supervisor who is very passionate about providing compassionate counseling services to the patients I serve, and educating others about mental health.
I love to teach and guide social workers to the next phase in their career as they go on the journey to obtain clinical licensure. My goal is to help my students grow into the therapist they want to be, and help them find their niche. I take an active role in your professional development and take a genuine interest in your progress from start all the way to passing your LCSW exam.
My speciality is serving as a crisis counselor and consultant for physicians conducting psychiatric assessments to assist them in determining the appropriate level of patient care needed. I also work in independent practice providing counseling for all ages, as well engage in public speaking for mental health education and awareness.
I have worked in the hospital setting over the last 15.5 years, working with a wide variety of patient populations serving as a crisis counselor and clinical supervisor in many settings both private and public sector. I am well versed in chemical dependency, behavioral health for general adult, geriatric and child/adolescent populations who suffer from mental illness and medical comorbidities.
I have vast experience in a variety of settings, such as inpatient psychiatric/medical units, outpatient therapy, emergency rooms, and residential care settings. In my experience I have run both psychotherapeutic and psycho-educational groups, family counseling, couples counseling and individual counseling for all ages.
In addition to psychiatry experience I have 8 years of experience working with the chronically and terminally ill on the oncology & bone marrow transplant units; with both adult and pediatric populations, where I served as a grief counselor and case manager. I also served as a financial advisor and lobbied the Texas State Capitol for better healthcare coverage for our under and uninsured.
